The Importance of Good Photographs

Everyone knows the saying, a photograph is worth a thousand words.  A thousand words is a lot of information, so you want to be sure your photo is giving the right message about your stallion.  This photo must inspire the potential breeders to believe that this is the stallion that will give them the winning foal or the perfect companion of their dreams!   The photo must interest the breeder enough to look further at your stallion, be it researching more about him or contacting you for a breeding contract.

The easiest way to do this is with professional pictures because the professional photographers know how to make your stallion look great.  If you figure that professional photos are expensive, imagine that the photo convinces one person to breed to your stallion, you have then covered the cost of the photographer.  For the brave, we will cover taking good photos in our next article.

You've learned what a good photo can do, now here’s what a poor photo can do. It can lose you business because a poorly taken photo can make a great stallion look awful.  Just as a good photo can make your horse look better, a poor photo can distort the look of your horse and make him look like he has crooked legs, a big head or a sway back.  Wise stallion owners make sure the photo promotes the best of their stallion.

If you only have one photo (or can use only one photo for an ad) it should be a side view to show off the conformation of your stallion.  Action shots are great, and can show how beautiful your stallion looks when he moves but the breeders we surveyed preferred to see a standing/conformation photo.  Head photos are also great as additional photos and give the potential breeder more information about your stallion.
